Windows 7 used to give me updating info as it was updating; jaws would give me the percent it was updating. I don't have that info now. I see update history but that seems to be happening every few days. I use check for updates in windows defender. Is that all I need to do?

Actually all you need to do is nothing at all. Smile.
It will take care of itself.

If it makes you feel better do this about once a month.
Press the windows key.
In the search box type check for updates.
It will probably say that right after you type check.
Press enter.
You'll find a button that says check for updates, or a message the system will be restarting.
If youfind the check for updates button press enter on it.
Don't expect anything to happen however. This is just making you feel as if you are doing something.
It will actually get new updates if they are available, but most times the computer is ahead of you.
Smile.
